A little table to how to get rid of all that negative self-talk. We have to learn look at the good in situations too, instead of dwelling on things we can’t change- because you know what? We may not be able to change what is happening but we CAN change how we view it!

Anonymous: How far do you think someone can go with a career in writing, without having post secondary education under their belt? Do you need to go to school before you get a chance writing in the big leagues?
I went to college for Art/Animation, not writing. The only writing-related material I took were standard college-level English courses and a bit of script writing as part of a Film course I took.
No one has ever asked me for my writing ‘credentials’ or checked to see if I have a degree in writing, and I doubt they ever will.
I teach at a post-secondary level now (Seneca College in Toronto) and I think education can be an important way to learn the craft and broaden your influences but it’s not an absolute requirement by any means.
90% of the time it’s about the work, not a degree.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
CHARLES BURNS grew up in Seattle in the 1970s. His work rose to prominence in Art Spiegelman’s Raw in the mid-1980s and took off from there, in an extraordinary range of comics and projects, from Iggy Pop album covers to the latest ad campaign for Altoids. In 1992 he designed the sets for Mark Morris’s restaging of The Nutcracker (renamed The Hard Nut) at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He illustrated covers for Time, The New Yorker, and The New York Times Magazine. He was also tapped as the official cover artist for The Believer magazine at its inception in 2003.
Burns’ graphic novel Black Hole has been critically acclaimed, receiving Eisner, Harvey, and Ignatz comics-industry awards. Black Hole has been adopted to the course curriculum of several classes at the University of Toronto (and in institutions across North America). In 2014 Burns completed his newest project, the X’ed Out graphic novel trilogy, consisting of X’ed Out, The Hive, and Sugar Skull. Burns will attend The Toronto Comic Arts Festival 2015 as a Featured Guest of TCAF, in celebration of this work. Charles Burns lives in Philadelphia with his wife and two daughters.

My finished Sailor Moon contribution for an upcoming 90’s anime gallery show! Acryla gouache on watercolour paper cut and glued and painted some more.
My favourite thing about Sailor Moon was that she was just a regular teenager. She fails tests, stress eats, goes to the arcade instead of doing homework, but still manages to save the world from the Negaverse. It was one of my first animes so it’ll always be special to me!

Had a great time at life drawing this week. Spent some time drawing for my teacher and some time drawing for myself. I think in the end, I found a balance between both styles. Ultimately, I had fun exploring this way, and that’s what matters most I think.
Now to work more an accuracy. (There’s always something to work on, isn’t there?) :D
Happy Drawing!

‘Inside Llewyn Davis Soundtrack’ by Various
I didn’t really like Inside Llewyn Davis that much as a movie but the music is actually super good. The whole soundtrack is my jam right now.
