I got a box from The Boxtrolls.
Awhile ago, amazing stop-motion animation studio Laika sent out care packages in support of their film Paranorman. Awesome and interesting folks got boxes featuring real animatronic puppets used in the film. They came in coffins, in dirt, and you had to dig them out. I was enthralled. A massive fan of their film Coraline and of stop-motion in general, I was giddy over this clever, joyful, interactive gesture.
Today, I got my very own.
The Boxtrolls is Laika’s next film, and I couldn’t be more excited. I opened the personally-dedicated packaging to find a whole treasure chest of goodies related to this next project - a secret map to the city of Cheesebridge, where it’ll take place, a decoder box with a cipher (!!!) message, a wonderful letter, some stickers of the awesome art on the box, and an actual manhole cover used in the film. I own a prop!
I was excited for The Boxtrolls, but now I’m positively giddy. Thank you so much, you clever, wonderful wizards.

I write and draw Lemon Inc., a comic about a seven-year-old who wants to be a business tycoon when he grows up. Until then, he runs a lemonade stand. You can read it at www.lemon-inc.com.
