angryartistsanonymous: Hey Rad as an artist do you do any kind of training everyday to stay sharp and productive at what you do? Kind of like a basketball player might shoot 800 baskets a day to train their shooting etc, etc, etc.
Yes, I need to spend at least 2 hours every morning copying drawings or I absolutely cannot draw. I pop in some anime or disney dvd and pause it and do studies. If I don’t do that, I can’t draw.
I work out 6 days a week. Either run for an hour, lift weights, or go to crossfit. As long as I do that, my back is fine. If I skip a few days, I’ll feel it.
“For the first time, Pixar has two original films that will be released this year. The Good Dinosaur will follow Inside Out in November, and with it, a brand new short.
‘Sanjay’s Super Team’ will be the first Pixar film starring a character of color. Director Sanjay Patel drew on his childhood experiences to create the 7 minute short, which chronicles a Hindu prayer ritual with his father.
It’s also the first time religion is the subject in a Pixar film. The short concerns Sanjay daydreaming about the Hindu gods as ancient superheroes, not unlike Marvel’s The Avengers…
Patel is the third Asian American director at Pixar, joining Ronnie del Carmen, co director of Inside Out, and Pete Sohn, director of The Good Dinosaur. He was candid in describing the difficulties of embracing his Indian heritage as a boy and even into adulthood…”
“My kids are teenagers now, and they’re going off on their own. And you understand it, but it’s hard for it not to hurt. Like the day you realize you’re not allowed in your daughter’s room anymore. Or when your son doesn’t want you to show him how to do something. The relationship tends to ebb and flow between ‘help me’ and ‘leave me alone.’ But lately, it’s been much more ‘leave me alone.’”
Bob Odenkirk has been wandering the streets of New York for weeks muttering about how his children no longer love him and no one’s doing anything about it
Wait… I really thought this was Bob Odenkirk. IS IT NOT?!?
Redrawing a picture that you like can be helpful - even just focusing on specific parts of it, or a doing a loose or abstract take on it. Scribbling on a notepad or a napkin counts. Everything counts. Be nice to yourself, no matter what.
Marian Churchland (aka hchomgoblin) with advice on overcoming a period of creative paralysis. This bit is at the end, but she gets even deeper. Read on. The “everything counts” bit is something I always have to tell myself. (via misterlorde)
The Canadian Senate has passed an amendment to a transgender rights bill that would ban trans people from using the bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity. Now, trans people in Canada (and their trans supporters in the United States) are sharing photos on Twitter and Facebook of themselves in public bathrooms they would be legally obligated to use under Senator Donald Plett’s bill. Check the hashtags #PlettPutMeHere and #WeJustNeedToPee for a dynamite collection of trans folks showing why these laws are absurd. Badass. (via BuzzFeed)
Because Karl Marx was problematic, we’ll have to abandon his work. Because everyone is problematic, we’ll have to abandon everything. Just reblog memes, describe your privileges, sign petitions you don’t understand for countries you’ll never live in and make sure you continue jacking off to liberal identity politics. Revolutionary work.
