Floyd E Norman

• Born June 22 1935
  
• Worked on the Film “Sleeping Beauty“ in 1956, becoming one of the first African American artists to remain at Walt Disney Studios on a long term basis
  
• Other work in Disney included “101 Dalmatians”, “the Sword and the Stone” , “The Jungle Book” and” Robin Hood”.
• He cofounded “AfroKids” which did various segments for shows like “Sesame Street”
• He was the last Mickey Mouse Comic strip Scripter before it was discontinued in the 1980s.
• He has been a Story Artist on WDAS  and Pixar films including, “Toy Story 2”, “Monsters’ Inc”,”Mulan”, “Dinosaur”, and “Hunchback of Notre Dame” and continues to work for the Walt Disney Company as a freelance artist.
• He was also a story artist for other animation studios, recently doing work on the movie “Free Birds”
• Awards and Honors include the 2002 Winsor McCay Award for “Recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation, being honored as a Disney Legend in 2007. the Inkpot award at Comic-Con international in 2008 and the “Sergio Award” in 2013 from CAPS (The Comic Art Professional Society)

33 Things Every Girl Should Know About Women’s History — We don’t have to explain this one, right?

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by @elockhartbooks.  Alabaster Preparatory Academy sophomore Frankie Landau-Banks is cute, clever, and dating one of the most popular boys in school — who also happens to be the co-leader of an all-male secret society on campus called the Loyal Order of the Basset Hounds. At first Frankie is content just to be Matthew Livingston’s arm candy, but the more he keeps secrets from her — seriously underestimating her intelligence — the more restless she becomes.  Taking control of the Bassets will change Alabaster Prep and Frankie. Fighting the patriarchy and pranks?  What could be better?  

The Fracking King by James Browning.  In this novel, a young man uses his skill at Scrabble to get facetime with the Govenor and stop an environmentally dangerous mining method, which is a total Knope move.

Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong by Prudence Shen and @faitherinhicks.  The student council president will decide if the cheerleaders get new uniforms, or the robotics club gets funding.  This kicks off a rumble that might tear apart an unlikely friendship.  An election, wacky hijinks and battle bots?  It’s practically an episode of Parks and Rec already!

Wonder Woman: The Ultimate Guide to the Amazon Princess by Scott Beatty.  Because every girl needs role models.

The Plain Janes by misscecil.  A group of misfits band together to create P.L.A.I.N. — People Loving Art in Neighborhoods.    But can art attacks really save the hell that is high school? 

Alanna the First Adventure by tamorapierce.  It is established that Leslie is a big Harry Potter fan, so we know she likes fantasy.  And of course Leslie would love the strong girls of Tortall!

Vote for Larry by Janet Tashjian.  Teenage guru Larry returns from the dead and runs for President in this 2nd book in the trilogy.  Larry (and Tashjian) takes a satirical, but probing look at the state of politics in the US and wonders what would happen if the voting age were lowered.  (PS Larry has a tumblr: accordingtolarry).  I can see teenage Leslie running for president? Can’t you?
