I like this time of year for all sorts of reasons.
Yeah, it’s commercial and whatever. But in some ways, in little ways, people remember to be human (or frog!).

SO AMAZE!My Drake’s Duck poster got accepted into the Advertising category in Society of Illustrator’s annual this year!
The poster is part of a series of artworks featuring the Drake’s Duck having adventures in New York. Also the first advertising job I took as a new graudate back in June! :)

I figured I’d post these because… well, lotsa Gingers. An exercise for Character Design class wherein we needed to go through some of our life drawing gesture poses, pick out 8, and draw an original character in those poses. Obviously I took a few artistic liberties with them buuut I think they worked out well enough. I did all 8 sketches in about a span of 2 hours. Trying to get faster with my output. I considered adding graphite linework to the blue pencil (you can even see I added a bit to one of the sketches), but I think these are readable enough as is, and I didn’t want to lose the detail of the sketches.

I write and draw Lemon Inc., a comic about a seven-year-old who wants to be a business tycoon when he grows up. Until then, he runs a lemonade stand. You can read it at www.lemon-inc.com.

Think of an idea that you believe in or have recently learned and create a character that represents the opposite of it and needs to learn it. This way you have a built in arc for your character. In terms of design, just make the design reflect the character’s personality in a symbolic way. This is what I do at least.
